Resident Life

Resident Dinner

We are a family

The best part of our residency program is our collegial and inclusive learning atmosphere. Residents enjoy spending time with each other and they love to learn from one another. Many of our residents are not from Michigan so they solidify to support each other. Whether it is exploring the great outdoors or eating at a trendy restaurant, our residents know how to have fun! The relationship between faculty and residents is one of respect and trust. The faculty interact closely with each resident, getting to know them on a personal level to develop mentorship. This helps faculty identify career goals and to monitor for burnout and mental well-being.

Things to do around Dearborn and Taylor

The city of Taylor, Dearborn, and its surrounding areas provide diverse cultural, gastronomical, and recreational opportunities. Taylor is an affordable city with great cost of living. While many residents live in Dearborn and Taylor, some choose to live in surrounding cities such as Canton, Ferndale, Royal Oak, and Midtown

Art and Culture

Dearborn is home to Michigan’s leading tourist attraction, The Henry Ford. It is the nation’s largest indoor-outdoor American history museum. Attracting nearly 1.6 million visitors each year, it includes scenic Greenfield Village, the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, the Giant Screen Experience and the Ford Rouge Factory.

Dearborn is also home the Arab American National Museum, which is a proud affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Car enthusiasts will want to visit the Automotive Hall of Fame to learn more about automotive innovations that put the world on wheels.

Dining

Dearborn and Taylor host a plethora of delicious restaurants, including resident favorites LaPita (Mediterranean), Miller’s Bar (American), and Taystee’s Burger (American).

Resident Wellness

Our program is dedicated to the mental, emotional, and physical health of our residents. In addition to the resources available through Beaumont Health, our program developed and implemented a wellness curriculum to help support resident well-being. The goals of this initiative is to reduce burnout, reduce anxiety and stress, identify fatigue and sleep deprivation, and to help find meaning in clinical practice.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, formal social gatherings were planned to promote camaraderie and mentorship among faculty and residents. We hope to resume these activities when the public health crisis subsides.

Finally, our two neuropsychologists are readily available to help provide informal counseling to our residents in times of need. They can also provide guidance towards appropriate community and institutional resources.
