Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Residency, Taylor

Research and Quality Improvement

Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Conference

Our residents are expected to complete one research or quality improvement project as a graduation requirement. For those interested in research, residents partner with faculty and research mentors to learn the process of formulating a research question, performing background research, writing an abstract and protocol, all the way to writing and submitting a manuscript for publication. Alternatively, residents may choose to conduct a quality improvement project under faculty supervision so they learn the process of analyzing patient care issues systematically and improving health care practices/delivery.

Our residents are also encouraged to complete case report abstracts for submission to regional or national meetings.

Training is available to all residents to develop expertise in human subject research and in the Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI) model of Quality Improvement.

Sample Current Research and Quality Improvement Projects

  • Cannabis use in the management of chronic musculoskeletal pain and neurological conditions
  • Amantadine’s effect on development of chronic pain in traumatic brain injury patients
  • Discharge rates of proton pump inhibitors from inpatient rehabilitation patients
