The Pediatric Residency Program at Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital provides residents with an outstanding and comprehensive education in a unique, supportive, collaborative environment. Utilizing the resources of Beaumont Health, which is both a major provider of primary care and a large tertiary referral center, Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, our diverse primary care, advocacy and educational communities, and the supervision and mentorship of dedicated academic faculty, our residents learn in varied, dynamic hospital-based and ambulatory settings. Whether residents pursue pediatric subspecialty training or careers in primary care pediatrics, pediatric hospital medicine, or medical education, the pediatric residency program develops compassionate, knowledgeable pediatricians, successful, independent, evidence-based clinicians and teachers, and strong community and patient advocates.

Mission

Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital's Pediatric Residency Program is dedicated to the comprehensive education and training of compassionate pediatricians who desire careers in general primary care pediatrics, hospital medicine, medical education, or one of the pediatric subspecialties. Our program develops pediatricians who have achieved extensive knowledge of general pediatrics and evidence-based medicine, as well as the foundation to be strong advocates for patient safety and the health and well-being of children within their community, responsibility for life-long learning, and a commitment to the education of others. The residency program achieves this mission by providing a strong, structured educational environment with rich, varied clinical and didactic experiences and robust individualized curriculum. We utilize the resources of Beaumont Health, our large tertiary medical center, our primary care, education, and legal partnership communities, and the supervision and mentorship of dedicated faculty who teach the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and humanistic behaviors that constitute the foundations of pediatrics, while meeting the residents’ varied individual needs and nurturing individual professional goals.

Aims

  • Prepare residents to achieve diverse and varied professional outcomes in the practice of pediatrics.
  • Enhance the competency of residents in the performance of procedures considered essential to the practice of general pediatrics.
  • Provide educational experiences that are interprofessional and family centered.
  • Develop residents who are well-grounded in the principles of assessment and interpretation of medical evidence and its application in the practice of pediatrics.
  • Develop residents who are active participants in improving the quality of patient care and patient safety outcomes.
