The ambulatory clinic offers endless opportunities to cater to the interests of our residents.

The Westland site is a busy suburban office with a racially, socially, and economically diverse patient population. It also offers a thriving family-centered maternity care practice giving those residents, who so desire, the opportunity to graduate with many more continuity deliveries than the minimum required. Our center offers x-ray facilities as well as full service procedure rooms. We offer the opportunity for residents to learn urgent care including splinting, casting and suturing.

As family medicine doctors, we strive to keep our patients within the circle of care. In the circle of care, the same doctor or team cares for the patient as he or she transitions through different healthcare settings. 

The family medicine center is the focal point of the residency program. During all three years of your residency, you will care for a panel of patients in the nearby community of Westland. The diverse city of Westland and its surrounding communities provide a wide variety of patients with different occupations, ethnicities, and health needs. Under supervision, you will provide comprehensive integrated medical care. This includes everything from well child visits to taking care of four-generation families with medical issues ranging from otitis media to diabetes. You will do vasectomies, colposcopies, endometrial biopsies, and supportive psychotherapy. We have support of a psychiatrist psychologist and a behavioral health consultant.

You will evaluate and treat patients in a variety of other settings as well – domestic violence shelters, elementary school health centers, high school clinics, occupational health centers, community health center, and nursing homes. The ICU faculty are full-time intensivists.

Our residents are energetic, optimistic, and inquisitive people. We will offer you a dazzling array of possibilities. You could be the onsight team physician for the Wayne - Westland schools, set fractures for water skiing enthusiasts on Mackinac Island, or provide counseling and urgent care to uninsured patients at federally qualified health center or community clinic.
