Corewell Health is the new name for Beaumont.

We believe the well-trained family physician of the future will understand the important role a family physician can play in his/her community. We have set up longitudinal relationships with three community clinics (Say Clinic, Pope Francis, Beaumont Teen Health Center River Rouge) to expose our residents to different patient populations and to help serve our community. Faculty also involve residents in activities through our relationship with Healthy Grosse Pointe/Harper Woods.

Recent activities

  • coaches for “Girls on the Run” through YMCA in Detroit
  • longitudinal lectures for a classroom at Harper Woods High School
  • panelists for Grosse Pointe Public Schools, “#OneGP Parent Camp”
  • panelists for CARE of Southeast Michigan Parent Camp
  • volunteering with Beaumont Parenting Program for new families
  • volunteering at Earthworks and Detroit A Bloom
  • workshops at local youth foster home

Community Medicine Activities

Out of the Darkness Walk and Mental Health Fair

At Beaumont, Grosse Pointe, we are fortunate to have a faculty that understands the impact mental health has on our patients and our resident physicians.

Here our faculty participate in a community outreach event sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) that raises awareness and funds to invest in research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. The event gives participants the courage to open up about their own struggles and creates a platform to change society’s approach to mental health.

Earthworks Urban Farming

Our residents are giving back to the community while learning about the necessities of organic produce and self-sustainment through Earthworks. Earthworks seeks to promote sustainable agricultural practices, nutrition, and education to the community. All produce that is harvested is distributed among neighborhood residents and utilized in the meals served at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.

Pope Francis Center

Located in the heart of downtown Detroit, the Pope Francis Center provides vital services to the city’s homeless. On an average day, they serve over 170 guests with nutritious meals, hot showers, laundry facilities, and access to doctors, dentists, lawyers, and housing providers through our free clinics. Our residents work with Dr. Asha Shajahan on Friday mornings during intern orientation, the social equity rotation, and their continuity clinic experience.

Grosse Pointe Pride Festival

Our faculty are proud to volunteer at Pride, an event that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and recognizes the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion.

Detroit Abloom

Our residents and faculty spent the day volunteering at Detroit Abloom, a wonderful organization that transforms blighted land into beautiful and productive landscapes.

Our dedicated and engaged physicians work to inform lawmakers that will guide legislative decision-making and generate support for policies on critical issues that impact physicians, patients and the health care environment at both the national and state levels.

Street Medicine

The pandemic has brought to light health disparities and implicit bias present in our healthcare system and across the country. Here at Beaumont, Grosse Pointe, we are proud to collaborate with an organization that aims to ensure access to quality medical care for Detroit’s homeless population. Through direct and regular outreach, this organization has been able to address the unique psychosocial and health care needs of our homeless patients.

Grosse Pointe Farmers Market Community Event Arts and Wellness

Our residency believes that creative practices can support healing, wellness, coping and personal change. We are proud to participate in the Grosse Pointe Farmers Market Community Event Arts and Wellness which highlights traditional healing arts including music, art, dance, and poetry.

Sports Physicals

Our faculty and resident physicians volunteer at various sporting events with the local high schools including football and hockey games in conjunction with our Sports Medicine faculty. Sports physicals and heart checks are provided to middle school and high school students by Beaumont doctors with assistance from Beaumont specialists in physical therapy, sports medicine and cardiology.

Procedure Workshop

Beaumont, Grosse Pointe is committed to investing in the future of family medicine and providing the tools, resources, and opportunities our residents need to succeed in their future practices. Here our residents participate in a procedure workshop where they hone their skills with suturing, casting, splinting, and joint injections.

Tar Wars

Tar Wars is a tobacco-free education program for fourth- and fifth-grade students that is designed to teach children about the short and long-term health effects of tobacco use. We have delivered this programming to multiple classrooms in our community to encourage students to stay free from tobacco.
