Corewell Health is the new name for Beaumont.

One of the greatest strengths of the department and the residency program is the uniqueness of its faculty. Through the combination of nearly 80 private attending/volunteer faculty physicians and 22 hospital-based full-time academic faculty, the program features a very special "university-community hybrid" model of care and education. This provides the residents the best of both worlds of education in an environment where faculty and residents interact collegially and with mutual respect. Faculty view themselves as partners in residency education and all private patients are "teaching" patients with residents encouraged to fully participate in their medical care. The attending physicians, with their broad personal and educational backgrounds, care for a diverse group of patients and clinical problems, all of which enrich the residents' experience.

Contributing to the faculty's unique "hybrid" character are the 22 full-time, hospital-based generalist and subspecialist academic faculty. With their strong dedication to resident and medical student education, each adds to a richly diverse set of interests and clinical expertise. No other non-university program in the country is known to have this number of full-time faculty physicians, demonstrating the genuine institutional and departmental commitment to residency education. This large academic faculty supports the subspecialty care and teaching divisions, and includes appropriately certified subspecialists in the following areas

  • Maternal-Fetal Medicine, including Reproductive Genetics
  • Fetal Imaging and Obstetric Ultrasonography
  • Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility
  • Gynecologic Oncology
  • Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery
Of special note, among the full-time faculty are six academic specialists in OB-GYN and two laborist physicians, whose responsibility is to support the residents and the residents' patients. This group provides direct supervision of all clinical care and educational activities involving the residents' patients - in residents' outpatient clinics, in labor and delivery, in the operating room, on the various inpatient care units and for all after-hours call coverage. The full-time subspecialty faculty also participate in the supervision and care of resident patients when appropriate.
Under the guidance and tutelage of this uniquely-combined and very capable full-time and private physician faculty, our residents achieve their many educational and personal goals, graduating as capable, competent and confident obstetrician-gynecologists.
