Commitment to Education

Pulmonary and Critical Care faculty demonstrate dedication to medical education, partnering with Beaumont and Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine to contribute to all stages of training.

Graduate Medical Education: PCCM faculty provide training for residents in Pulmonary Consult, Medical ICU, Ambulatory Pulmonary Medicine, and Sleep Medicine rotations.  Consult and MICU rotations have residents from Internal Medicine, Internal Medicine/Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesia, and Transitional Year programs.  Residents have appreciated the educational value of these rotations, as a PCCM faculty has earned the “Teacher of the Year” Award each year from the Internal Medicine residents from 2011 to present.  PCCM faculty is active in resident mentorship, having placed multiple internal medicine residents in competitive PCCM fellowships, and assisted EM residents to match in critical care.

Undergraduate Medical Education: Beaumont Health is the sole clinical affiliate for Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, which admits 125 students each year. PCCM faculty organize and facilitate the OUWB Respiratory curriculum, provided to all first-year medical school students. Our faulty earned “Clinical Science Educator of the Year” awards from OUWB students in 2013 and 2016. OUWB third year students participate in the pulmonary consult service, and fourth year students have opportunity for electives in Pulmonary consult, Medical ICU, Ambulatory Pulmonary Medicine, and Sleep Medicine.  Elective rotations are also available from students from other medical schools.
