Fellow Life

We Are Family

The best part of our training program is our collegial and inclusive learning atmosphere. Fellows and residents enjoy spending time with each other and they love to learn from one another. Many of our trainees are not from Michigan so they solidify to support each other. Whether it is exploring the great outdoors or eating at a trendy restaurant, our residents know how to have fun! The relationship between faculty, fellow, and residents is one of respect and trust. The faculty interact closely with the fellow, getting to know them on a personal level to develop mentorship. This helps faculty identify career goals and to monitor for burnout and mental well-being.

Things to Do Around Dearborn and Taylor

The city of Taylor, Dearborn, and its surrounding areas provide diverse cultural, gastronomical, and recreational opportunities. Taylor is an affordable city with great cost of living. While many fellows live in Dearborn and Taylor, some choose to live in surrounding cities such as Canton, Ferndale, Royal Oak, and Midtown.

Art and Culture

Dearborn is home to Michigan’s leading tourist attraction, The Henry Ford. It is the nation’s largest indoor-outdoor American history museum. Attracting nearly 1.6 million visitors each year, it includes scenic Greenfield Village, the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, the Giant Screen Experience and the Ford Rouge Factory.

Dearborn is also home the Arab American National Museum, which is a proud affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Car enthusiasts will want to visit the Automotive Hall of Fame to learn more about automotive innovations that put the world on wheels.

Dining

Dearborn and Taylor host a plethora of delicious restaurants, including resident favorites LaPita (Mediterranean), Miller’s Bar (American), and Taystee’s Burger (American).

Music

In the summertime, both Dearborn and Taylor host free outdoor concerts at various venues. Professional and community shows are also available at Michael A. Guido Theater in the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, and the Taylor Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.

Sports and Outdoor Activities

The City of Detroit is home to 4 professional sports teams: The Lions, Red Wings, Tigers and Pistons. You can learn more about them in our about the area section.

In the Taylor area, amateurs to semi-professionals will enjoy two beautiful public 18-hole courses. Lakes of Taylor Golf Club is a par 72 championship course, and it spans a total of 7,028 yards from its longest tees. The course is perfect for challenging more experienced players along with helping rookies relax as they learn. Taylor Meadows Golf Club is course set in an idyllic setting that will let you step away from life for a little while. It was designed by renown course architect, Arthur Hills.
