Corewell Health - Southeast Michigan
Residency Programs

Our mission

The mission of the Corewell Health – Southeast Michigan physical therapy residency programs is to significantly advance the clinical skills, knowledge, and the ability to advocate of physical therapists. The residency programs align the physical therapy department and Corewell Health’s mission of improving health, instilling humanity and inspiring hope through exemplary care of the overall population. In addition, these programs are intended to prepare PTs for the APTA Specialist Certification Examinations in Physical Therapy (commonly known as board certification).

The Corewell Health - Southeast Michigan Residency Programs are designed to provide advanced training in their respective specialty area. All of the programs utilize our large hospital system in Southeast Michigan to provide the residents with a wide array of experiences and the chance to collaborate with a large multi-disciplinary team. Furthermore, our evidence-based didactic curriculums are supplemented by dedicated mentoring to foster strong clinical skills.

- Each residency is approximately 12 month in duration, starting each January and concluding in December.

- The didactic curriculum is primarily delivered through Medbridge modules which is provided to the residents, with program specific additions as needed

- Each Resident will present a capstone project, as well as participate in journal club, grand rounds, and community service projects

- Each week 8-10 hours will be dedicated to patient care alongside a mentor, with an additional 1 hour of time to discuss cases

- Residents are considered full time employees of Corewell Health and are compensated at 100% rate based on experience and entitled to all employee benefits

- Each year our programs admit up to 2 residents.
