Matthew Kawahara, MD - 1st year fellow

Dr. Kawahara grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii and attended the University of Hawaii where he graduated with a degree in Biology. He then worked as a program assistant for Hawaii H.O.M.E. Project, a homeless medical outreach clinic on the island of Oahu. He then obtained his medical degree from the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine and then went on to complete his general surgery residency at the same institution. In his spare time, he likes to spend time with his wife and two children and enjoys going to the beach.

Melissa Hetrick, DO - 2nd year fellow

Dr. Hetrick grew up in Michigan prior to attending Loyola University Chicago for her undergraduate studies in History, French Language and Literature. Throughout college, she worked as an EMT and became a founding member of an on-campus emergency medical services program. She earned her medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine where she held numerous leadership positions. She completed her residency at Allegheny Health Network where she served as the chief of minimally invasive surgery and resident wellness. In her spare time, Dr. Hetrick enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.
