James Robbins, M.D.
James Robbins, M.D. is the Medical Director of the Applebaum Surgical Learning Center. In that capacity, he has oversight responsibilities for the various educational programs in the center. Dr. Robbins also continues an active practice in general surgery, trauma surgery, and surgical critical care. His other leadership responsibilities at Beaumont include Surgical Clerkship Director for medical students (Wayne State University and future Oakland University students), Chairman of the Corporate Transfusion Committee, and Representative of the medical staff as Member at Large.
Director, Marcia & Eugene Applebaum Surgical Learning Center
Jeff Burmeister provides strategic oversight for the Surgical Learning Center. He monitors adherence to the operating budget, variances and revenue. He approves and advances capital expenditures and significant equipment repairs. He lobbies for additional funding from current and new sources, including new philanthropic opportunities and appropriate vendors. Further, he encourages collaborative opportunities and key business connections that support the mission.
Diane Schuch-Miller, MEd
Assistant Director, Marcia & Eugene Applebaum Surgical Learning Center
Diane Schuch-Miller is responsible for the daily operations of the Surgical Learning Center. She works directly with industry to coordinate events in the Surgical Learning Center that meet all compliance and safety requirements in addition to instructional requirements. Diane uses her expertise in teaching and learning to develop curricula and programs. She monitors the instructional design process and established SLC processes. She works directly with program directors and faculty to strengthen needs assessment information, instructional approaches, learner evaluation and program evaluation. As a result of discovering challenge areas, she recommends faculty development opportunities and provides feedback on existing faculty development materials.
Diane also works with the CME office and collaboratively with course instructors to gain appropriate credit for courses. She helps hone research questions into valid research hypotheses and resulting investigations. She monitors progress of relevant work, coordinates these efforts with other SLC activities and contributes to data collection, discussion of its significance and impact to the greater medical education research community.
Clinical Simulation Educator
Ron Streetman supports all education programs held in the SLC, in terms of appropriate set-ups, including appropriate and necessary instruments, equipment, disposables and/or props, as well as running the control room during a human patient simulation. In addition to this primary responsibility, Ron maintains equipment and is instrumental in orienting new faculty and learners to the Surgical Learning Center, its resources, navigating the storage spaces in order to find the most requested items. Ron recommends faculty development topics based upon frequency of questions and is an active contributor to the development of the instructional materials.
Simulation Program Coordinator
Lisa has been an employee of Beaumont Health System for 29 years, holding various positions in the Human Resources Department from a co-op student to Treasury Administration. Lisa worked for Treasury Administration as a Corporate Staff Secretary for 18 years prior to transferring to the Beaumont Foundation in 2004 to fulfill an Administrative Secretary position.
In 2008, Lisa took on the role of a Senior Executive Assistant position in Corporate Administration until her current status in the Surgical Learning Center in July of 2009. Lisa is a board member of the Berkley Chamber of Commerce and an active volunteer/coordinator for many various youth athletic programs within the City of Berkley.
