Gynecological Surgery

As the most preferred hospitals for maternal care, Beaumont has obstetrical, gynecological surgical services provided by some of the most respected physicians in the nation who perform nearly 7,000 deliveries and over 9,000 gynecologic surgical procedures each year. Our medical staff includes a number of sub-specialists, six board certified maternal fetal specialists and Obstetrics/Gynocologic Oncologists. Beaumont is affiliated with reproductive endocrinologists and infertility specialists.

Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery

It used to be that having gynecological surgery meant you set aside three months of your life to recover. And in some places, it’s still that way.

At Beaumont Hospitals, we use the most advanced laparoscopic- and robotic-assisted minimally invasive gynecological surgery techniques that are nothing short of amazing. With surgery this precise, recovery is measured in days, not weeks or months.

Other benefits include:

  • less pain
  • less blood loss
  • far smaller incisions
  • shorter hospital stay
  • faster return to normal activities

Surgeons at Beaumont use minimally invasive techniques for:

  • menorrhagia (excessively heavy periods)
  • dysmenorrhea (painful periods)
  • uterine fibroids
  • dysfunctional uterine bleeding
  • chronic pelvic pain
  • endometriosis
  • tubal ligation
  • pelvic organ prolapse
  • incontinence
  • gynecological cancer

Fetal Surgery

With non-invasive technology such as fetal MRIs, Beaumont specialists can precisely characterize fetal anomalies so that optimal preparation for newborn care can be made without the risks related to invasive procedures. Beaumont is one of only two hospitals in southeast Michigan providing intra-uterine therapy for fetal disorders such as Rh and related disease. If you have a complicated pregnancy, your doctor may ask for assistance from Beaumont's High-Risk Pregnancy Program.

Education

Through its medical student programs, the department has formal academic affiliations with the University of Michigan and Wayne State University Schools of Medicine. Beaumont Hospital is also designated as a regional center for neonatal intensive care and as a tertiary care perinatal and genetics center.

The OB/GYN residency is a four-year, 24-resident program, fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Six first-year postgraduate positions are offered each year through the National Resident Matching Program.
