The Department of Colon and Rectal surgery at Beaumont Hospitals includes specialists certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. While the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer represents a major focus of the specialty, Beaumont's multi-disciplinary teams offer comprehensive care for the wide variety of disorders affecting the lower intestinal tract including anal and perianal disease.

Education

Beaumont offers fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery accredited by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. In addition, members of the department represent an integral part of the teaching faculty for our larger fully accredited residency in General Surgery. Activities include monthly multidisciplinary Colorectal Tumor conference, journal review, grand rounds, and activities promoting laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgical training in the Applebaum Surgical Learning Center.

Research

As one of the nations highest volume centers for the treatment of colon and rectal disease Beaumont participates as a member of ACOSOG, the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group. Whenever appropriate, patients will be given the option to participate in national clinical trials for cancer research.
