The Special Testing Laboratory performs more than 100 different tests that are used in patient diagnosis, monitoring and treatment. Laboratory staff uses chromatographic, electrophoretic, microscopic, enzymatic, radioisotopic and manual methodologies for the detection of specific analytes.

  • Chromatographic and electrophoretic separation of individual hemoglobins to detect hemoglobinopathies, e.g., sickle cell trait, beta thalassemia trait
  • Serum proteins to detect disease-related imbalances or presence of a monoclonal protein
  • Chromatographic fractionation of individual catecholamines and their metabolites in urine

Allergy Testing


In vitro allergy tests include the most common inhalants, foods, environmental and occupational allergens. Latex allergy testing is available for sensitized patients, health care workers and pre-surgical patients.
