Research conducted by the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak seeks to improve the care and treatment of adult patients with acquired and congenital cardiac conditions. It is comprised of clinical and outcomes research. Studies are supported by philanthropy, federal sponsors, industry, or foundation grants/contracts. Current clinical research includes studies of cardiovascular imaging and novel diagnostics (e.g., CCTA), new medications (e.g., investigational drugs), novel interventions (e.g., gene therapy) and therapeutic devices (e.g., new coronary artery stents) to treat patients with such conditions as congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, and atrial fibrillation.
As classical cardiovascular disease syndromes become better understood in mechanistic terms of molecular and cellular biology, translating and applying these results to clinical practice and new therapies continues to improve patient outcomes. We combine the expertise of practicing cardiologists with full-service operational capabilities to conduct well-managed clinical trials. This is all with the goal of bringing cutting edge clinical research and clinical trials to our patients.
Cardiovascular Research supports the service line's clinical investigators' research studies as well as resident and fellow research projects. There are 60 active clinical studies (30 open and enrolling/30 closed and in followup) including numerous investigator initiated studies in:
