Surgeons, residents and entire operating room teams at Beaumont Hospital are using hands-on tools and patient simulators to:

• perfect their skills. Students and surgeons can learn and practice risk-free on a simulator until their technique is perfect.
• improve their learning experience. Scenarios can be employed for procedures to which caregivers receive limited exposure.
• optimize clinical outcomes. Learning with patient simulators ensures that patients are receiving the best outcomes possible.

With patient simulators, instructors can deliberately produce accurate clinical symptoms and realistic responses to the team’s interventions. Training sessions are followed with a debriefing that includes watching a videotape of the session, allowing the team to evaluate their performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
