Beaumont, Troy awarded advanced certification for primary stroke centers from Joint Commission


Beaumont Hospital, Troy has earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ for stroke care. The Joint Commission, along with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association recently recognized Beaumont, Troy with Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers. Beaumont, Troy earned this distinction after The Joint Commission conducted an on-site review in June.

"Beaumont, Troy is committed to providing our patients the highest quality stroke care centered on current scientific research to ensure continued improvement in treatment," says Debra Guido-Allen, R.N., vice president and chief nursing officer. "With this certification, all three Beaumont hospitals now have certified stroke centers. This recognition highlights the exceptional care our stroke teams provide our patients, and helps us improve care for the communities that we serve."

Developed in collaboration with the American Stroke Association and launched in 2003, The Joint Commission's Primary Stroke Center Certification program is based on the Brain Attack Coalition's "Recommendations for the Establishment of Primary Stroke Centers." Certification is available only to stroke programs in Joint Commission-accredited acute care hospitals.

Beaumont, Royal Oak was awarded Joint Commission certification for its stroke program in 2006. The stroke center at Beaumont, Grosse Pointe was first certified in 2010 and recently earned recertification.

The Neurology department at Beaumont treats all neurological diseases, including stroke, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis and migraine, among others. In addition, the hospital has a Myasthenia Gravis Treatment Center; a Neurology Clinic; a Neuromuscular Clinic for children; neuroradiology; and clinical neurophysiology.
