Beaumont Hospital to Add Long-Term Acute Care Services Through Expertise of Select Specialty Hospital

4/28/2011

Select Specialty Hospital and Beaumont Hospital have announced that Select will be leaving Henry Ford Cottage Hospital after five years, for renovated space within Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe.

The agreement involves Select's lease of 30 beds on the third floor of Beaumont, Grosse Pointe. Expected to open May 11, the new, highly specialized medical center will operate as a hospital within a hospital.

"Our highly specialized, acute-care hospital staff looks forward to continuing to provide high-quality care to patients in our new Beaumont location," said Sandra Baumchen, interim chief executive officer, Select Specialty Hospital - Grosse Pointe.

"Beaumont and Select Specialty Hospital share a commitment to excellence in patient care," said Donna Hoban, M.D., senior vice president and physician-in-chief, Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe. "We are pleased to be able to offer a seamless transition to long-term acute care for patients at Beaumont and other hospitals in the community."

Select Specialty Hospital treats patients who require a longer acute care hospitalization for critical and complex medical and surgical conditions. The hospital is fully staffed by physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, case managers, physical and occupational therapists, dieticians and pharmacists. A variety of programs are offered, including those focused on pulmonary/ventilator weaning, infectious disease and complex wound care.

"On behalf of the staff at Select Specialty Hospital, we want to thank the community for their support of our hospital," said Baumchen. "We look forward to growing and strengthening these relationships for years to come. Our hospital's first priority is -- and always will be -- excellence in patient care."

"Long-term acute care is the only service Beaumont Hospitals currently does not provide," said Dr. Hoban. "The relocation of Select Specialty's services will keep this much-needed service in our community and add to the continuum of care offered at our hospitals."
