Beaumont Health System named 'Green Leader'
Health System Receives Two Awards for Leading Eco-Friendly Initiatives
Both awards focus on identifying organizations that are committed to leading green initiatives and exhibiting excellence in environmental responsibility.
Beaumont was the only health system in Metro Detroit recognized as a sustainable company by 101 Best and Brightest and the only hospital recognized as a green leader in the nonprofit category by the Detroit Free Press.
Beaumont Green Team leaders will be given the 101 Best and Brightest Sustainable Companies award on April 18 at Davenport University in Grand Rapids and the 2012 Michigan Green Leader award on April 27 at the MGM Grand in Detroit.
“We are truly honored to be recognized among the state’s most impressive green leaders,” says Kay Winokur, vice president of Quality and Professional Services and co-chair of the Green Team at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. “It is because of the dedication and efforts of our green teams’ members and hospital leadership that allow sustainable practices to become a great part of Beaumont’s culture.”
Both honors last for one year.
Beaumont Health System is committed to implementing cost-effective solutions to reduce waste and conserve energy, while providing education to employees to learn more about environmental issues. Through efforts to reduce energy and water consumption, Beaumont will save a minimum of $1.3 million each year. In 2011, Beaumont earned $83, 000 from recycling paper, plastic, glass and other materials.
The 101 Best and Brightest Sustainable Companies celebrates organizations that inspire and produce green technology to impact the industry and environment. It celebrates those companies that are making their businesses more sustainable, the lives of their employees better and improving the community locally and globally as a whole. The 101 Best and Brightest program provides yearlong education, benchmarking, assessment tools and interaction throughout Michigan.
The Detroit Free Press recognizes people, businesses and organizations that are moving the state in a greener, more sustainable direction through the Michigan Green Leader awards. They will honor 17 Michigan Green Leaders - individuals, businesses and organizations moving the state forward in innovation, job creation, sustainable development, community advocacy, and conservation.
