Individual Internship CPE Units

  • A baccalaureate degree awarded by an accredited post secondary institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or equivalency.
  • Some formal theological education, from a college, university, or theological school accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education, or equivalency, depending on the requirements of the denomination or faith group of the applicant. Equivalencies for the undergraduate and/or graduate level theological degree will be determined by the Center's Professional Advisory Group.
  • Sufficient demonstrable emotional maturity and openness to benefit from the clinical method of learning.
  • A commitment to clinical pastoral learning and ministry that derives from personal vocational interest and/or need/opportunity to do pastoral ministry under the auspices of one's religious congregation or faith group.
  • Documentary evidence of faith group approval and endorsement of their plans for CPE training and ministry practice.
  • A completed ACPE application form.
  • Demonstrated the ability to participate in CPE through an entrance interview.

Residency CPE Program

  • A graduate theological degree from a college, university, or theological school accredited by a member of the Council for Higher Education, or equivalency, depending on the requirements of the denomination or faith group of the applicant. Students completing their graduate degree will be considered. Equivalencies for the undergraduate and/or graduate level theological degree will be determined by the Center's Professional Advisory Group.
  • Demonstrated openness and commitment to the learning process as it relates to the field of ministry including identified learning goals.
  • Emotional stability and maturity, allowing the student chaplain to enter into the in-depth process of the action reflection learning experience.
  • Adequate ability to perform ethical spiritual care.
  • Successful completion of one unit of Level 1 CPE (submit copies of final evaluations, both self and Chaplain Educators). Our residencies are structured to provide for a minimum of three (3) units of CPE. Our Center does not offer a two-unit residency, nor do we offer second-year residencies.
  • A completed ACPE application form.
  • Demonstrated the ability to participate in CPE through an entrance interview.

Admission into the Beaumont Health System CPE Center's programs is also contingent upon meeting all Beaumont Health corporate standards/processes including:

  • Satisfactory criminal history search of both state and federal abuse and neglect registries and databases. 
  • Completion of a successful pre-admission physical performed by Beaumont's Occupational Health Service that includes drug screening, antibody testing for communicable diseases, a TB test, and immunizations (if needed).
  • Participation in Beaumont orientation sessions (Corporate and assigned campus site) as required by Corporate Human Resources.
  • All Beaumont corporate and campus requested protocols as required.
