Reiki Training

The National Institute of Health classifies Reiki as an energy medicine, a form of touch therapy. Reiki and other touch therapies are considered to be a very low risk intervention - no serious side effects or risks have been identified in the medical literature on Reiki. Since Reiki is facilitated either with a very light touch, or slightly off the body without touch, it provides a therapeutic option for those who are in pain or unable to be touched.

The 2010 Health Forum survey cited that 21% of the hospitals responding offered Reiki and/or Therapeutic Touch. Beaumont offers Reiki therapy, both inpatient and outpatient, through the Department of Integrative Medicine.

The research-documented benefits of Reiki therapy include

  • stress reduction
  • pain relief
  • reduced anxiety and depression
  • less fatigue for oncology patients
  • improved quality of life for the elderly
  • reduced burn-out for nurses
