Children's Miracle Network Fact Sheet
Beaumont Children's Hospital is proud to be a member of the Children's Miracle Network - a national alliance of premier hospitals for children. The non-profit organization is dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by raising funds for children's hospitals across North America. Each year, the 170 Children's Miracle Network hospitals provide the finest medical care, life-saving research and preventative education to help millions of kids overcome diseases and injuries of every kind. Beaumont has been the only Children's Miracle Network affiliated hospital in Southeast Michigan since 1988.
One of Children's Miracle Network's founding commitments is to keep funds within the community in which they are generated. 100% of the donations raised in Southeast Michigan stay here in our community to fund exceptional pediatric programs and services, vital pediatric equipment and provide treatment scholarships for families unable to afford care.
Beaumont depends on community support to help fund these vital services. Special events and grassroots fund raisers are conducted year-round through a coalition of corporate sponsors, media partners and local businesses working together to ensure healthy kids in our community.
The following are some of the initiatives that were made possible with the invaluable support of Children's Miracle Network:
- Beaumont Healthy Kids Program
The Beaumont Healthy Kids Program is a critically needed initiative within the Beaumont Weight Control Center. It addresses the growing problem of childhood obesity and the dangerous rise in the incidence of pediatric diabetes.
- Bedside Computers
Children's Miracle Network provided funding for bedside computers for our pediatric and PICU patients. "Mann the Computers," an exciting program begun by a long-time donor, allows pediatric patients to use a computer without ever leaving their room.
- Children's Miracle Network Garden
The focal point of our Children's Hospital, the 3,829 square-foot Children's Center Garden, was fully funded by Children's Miracle Network. This "no poke zone" is truly a magical place where patients and family members can gather to read stories, watch movies and engage in a variety of games and educational activities.
- Pediatric Rehabilitation Annual Bike Day
The Annual Pediatric Rehabilitation Bike Day, in which approximately 40-50 pediatric rehabilitation patients receive free, reconfigured bikes fit to each child's specific needs. These bikes introduce the joy of bike riding to our pediatric rehabilitation patients while giving them the additional benefits of physical therapy and healthy exercise.
- Safety City
Safety City, U.S.A is dedicated to safety and injury prevention education with the goal of decreasing the incidence of unnecessary trauma that occurs in Michigan on a daily basis. A collaborative venture with the Royal Oak Fire Department, Safety City is a one-of-a-kind program in the state and provides courses for children that include fire prevention and safety, "stranger danger," bike safety, infant and toddler home safety for new parents, as well as weeklong summer safety camps.
- Parenting Program
This award-winning, volunteer-driven, program offers a series of in-home classes for new parents with experts from throughout the Beaumont system. Small groups of parents begin classes with others who have infants the same age and learn age-appropriate skills, including child care, safety, nutrition and discipline.
- Specialized Pediatric Medical Equipment
Enhancing Beaumont's 83 pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties, Children's Miracle Network funds have purchased life-saving medical equipment, such as two echocardiogram machines for infants/children with heart problems, child-sized Endoscopy equipment used to perform over 1,000 procedures yearly on children, and NICU "Giraffe" Incubator/Warmer beds for our tiniest patients.
