Gene Michalski is the first president and chief executive officer of Beaumont Health, a $3.8 billion not-for-profit health care organization created through an affiliation of Beaumont Health System, Botsford Health Care and Oakwood Healthcare on Sept. 2, 2014. Michalski also currently serves as the fifth president and chief executive officer of Beaumont Health System, appointed June 1, 2010. Prior to his appointment as Beaumont’s CEO, he served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Beaumont Health System from 2006 to 2010, and as senior vice president and hospital director of Beaumont Hospital, Troy from 1997 to 2006.
Michalski held the position of executive vice president and chief operating officer of Saint Francis Hospital, Evanston, Illinois from 1992 to 1996. Prior to 1992, he held the following positions at Beaumont: senior associate hospital director, 1988; associate hospital director, 1983; assistant hospital director, 1980; and administrative assistant, 1978. He began his Beaumont career in 1971 working in the laboratory at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak.
Michalski is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He currently serves as the delegate for the AHA Regional Policy Board Region 5. He is a former member of the Michigan Health and Hospital Association Executive Committee and Board of Trustees, and a current member of the Greater Detroit Area Health Council Executive Committee and Board of Trustees, the Oakland County Michigan Medical Main Street Board, and the Detroit Regional Chamber Board of Directors.
His past professional activities include president elect of the Evanston Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; member of the Board of Directors of Evanston Inventure; member of the Northern Illinois Business Association; president of the Board of Directors, Oakland County EMS Medical Control Authority, the Michigan Healthcare Executives Group and Associates and the American Cancer Society, Oakland County Chapter; member of the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association; and president of the Midwest Healthcare Executive Group and Associates.
Michalski received the American Hospital Association’s Most Valuable PAC Player Award for 2011. He is a former recipient of the Michigan Health and Hospital Association Health Care Leadership Award, was named a Crain’s 2012 “Newsmaker Of The Year” and has been recognized on Becker Hospital Review’s list of 100 non-profit hospital and health system “CEOs to Know.”
He received his BS in Biology, MS in Physiology and MBA in Finance from Wayne State University.
