Pediatric Surgery

At Beaumont Children's Hospital, pediatric surgery is performed by dedicated pediatric surgical teams that include board-certified pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses and radiologists.

Designed specifically for children needing surgery, Beaumont, Royal Oak, has opened the Ghesquiere Family Center for Children's Surgery. The center offers the most-advanced technology, including minimally invasive surgical procedures. Pediatric anesthesiologists and pediatric radiologists are on call 24 hours a day. Surgeons specialize in general pediatric surgery as well as the subspecialties of ear, nose and throat; ophthalmology; orthopaedics; and urology.

The 16,000-square-foot  facility helps to reduce the anxiety of children who are about to undergo surgery with its child-friendly design and features such as:

  • a "river" floor
  • twinkling "stars" in the ceiling
  • red wagons instead of wheelchairs to transport patients
  • a video wall with kid-friendly images
  • portable DVD players
  • fanciful frames around doorways to semi-private preoperative rooms
  • paint color palette of light, bright colors
  • original artwork provided by students from the Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School in Bloomfield Hills

The facility includes a waiting room, semi-private preoperative rooms, five procedure rooms and a postanesthesia care unit.
