The Department of Clinical Pathology has pathologists and PhDs providing medical direction and technical supervision for the laboratory's large menu of tests. The laboratory is accredited by the American College of Pathologists (CAP), the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI). Our pathologists are board certified by the American Board of Pathology. Nine pathologists have subspecialty certifications in hematopathology, three pathologists are board certified in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, three have subspecialty certification in Chemical Pathology, and one has subspeciality certification in molecular pathology. Our biomedical staff (PhDs) has expertise in automated chemistry, toxicology, endocrinology, histocompatibility, and microbiology.
Specialized Clinical Laboratory Services

Flow cytometry for neoplastic disorders, lymphocyte subsets, immune status, DNA content, platelet associated antibody, HLA-B27 and fetal cell detection.

Specialized coagulation tests for comprehensive evaluation of patients with inherited and acquired bleeding disorder, thromboembolic complications, hypercoagulable states and disorders of platelet function.

Molecular pathology provides genetic analysis for inherited disorders, genetic risk factors, pharmocogenomics, hematology neoplastic markers and infectious diseases. Our molecular pathology laboratory is recognized as a Molecular Center of Excellence.

Clinical microbiology provides a full range of tests for bacteria, fungi, parasites, susceptibility testing and virology.

Toxicology provides rapid and complete drug screening and confirmation by gas chromatography/mass spectrophotometry.

Special testing laboratory provides a full range of immune disease tests, allergy tests, infectious disease serology, obstetric screening, amniotic fluid testing, tumor marker testing and specific protein testing.
