High Touch and High Tech

In less than 18 months, the leadership team at Beaumont, Grosse Pointe has made amazing progress in transforming the hospital into a center for high-tech care.

Beaumont, Grosse Pointe's leadership team includes business administrators who tend to the daily operations of running a hospital with a keen eye on the bottom line, and physicians, whose first responsibility is to the patient.

"Surgeons having input about technology used in the operating room just makes sense," says Larry Lloyd, M.D., senior vice president and director of Surgical Services. "The purchase of new equipment is physician driven and administration facilitated."

Having the medical staff, the nursing staff and the support staff's input is crucial for success. Process improvements come from those who actually perform the task at hand.

"Beaumont, Grosse Pointe benefits from Beaumont Hospitals' reputation for excellence and from the resources available to us," says Donna Hoban, M.D., senior vice president and director of Medical Staff Services. "Few hospitals have a full-scale, onsite research facility like the one at our Royal Oak hospital. It provides our physicians the opportunity to improve health care delivery."

Dr. Hoban adds that with the opening of the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, Beaumont Hospitals' reputation as an academic medical center will grow, helping it to advance its position on the U.S. News and World Report's lists of "America's Best Hospitals."

"Physicians want to practice where they have the tools to deliver high quality health care," says Hoban. "On the eastside, that place is Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe."
