Health Hero - A health and wellness education program

Health Hero is a health and wellness education program for first, second and third-grade students.
The program is focused on three main topics:

  • healthy behavior choices
  • nutrition
  • physical activity.

Students will act out skits, play games, dance and become a Health Hero! This 45-minute, assembly-style program focuses on choices that students make from the time they wake up to the time they get to bed. Health Hero helps students build a foundation for a healthier lifestyle and empowers them to make informed decisions when it comes to their food, fitness and behaviors.

What is needed from the school?

  • Time: We need approximately 45 minutes for the presentation.
  • Space: Health Hero can be implemented in a classroom setting or as an assembly.
  • Equipment: Health Hero is a PowerPoint presentation. Sound and visual aids are used. If equipment is unavailable, accommodations can be made.

Why was Health Hero created?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2012 more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese. In efforts to address this health epidemic in our youth, Beaumont Health System partnered with Challenge Detroit to create a childhood obesity prevention education program.
