The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Beaumont is an individually designed, medically-supervised program for the recovering cardiac patient. Our professional team includes:
Research studies suggest that cardiac rehabilitation programs decrease the likelihood of recurrent cardiovascular events, improve survival, and reduce the need for additional cardiac procedures.
Some of the conditions or procedures that may benefit from cardiac rehabilitation may include, but are not limited to, the following:
A referral from your cardiologist and successful completion of a stress test are required to enroll. As you begin the program, you will attend an individual orientation with one of our exercise physiologists or nurses. Orientations are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. During your orientation, you will choose the class time you will attend 2 or 3 days per week.
Each ECG-monitored exercise session is one hour and includes daily education (verbal and written). To complement the exercise program, opportunities exist to participate in a stress reduction group, cardiac support group (see Guiding Hearts) and resistance training. Dietary counseling and diabetes education are also available, on a referral basis.
A referral from your cardiologist and successful completion of a stress test are required to enroll. Before beginning the program, participants complete three, one-hour ECG-monitored exercise sessions that assist staff in developing an exercise prescription. As an on-going program, Phase III allows you to continue medically supervised exercise in a group setting up to 5 days per week, for one hour.
Balance and flexibility sessions, pool exercise, the Advanced Training Program (ATP), cardiac support group and stress management group are excellent adjuncts to the exercise program (some are at an additional out-of-pocket cost). Educational lectures are held on a monthly basis.
For a current schedule, please see Exercise Schedule.
Phase II - Health insurance will often cover a large portion of the expenses incurred by your participation in Phase II Cardiac Rehab. However, individual insurance programs vary; please verify the coverage available to you. The duration of cardiac rehab is determined by your clinical status, insurance coverage, cardiovascular history and responses to exercise.
Phase III - This maintenance program is based on a monthly fee of $87.00 and is not typically covered by insurance.
If you would like to participate in this program, print the Cardiac Rehabilitation Physician Referral Form and discuss the possibility with your doctor.

Enhanced External Counter Pulsation is a series of outpatient, non-invasive treatments that can relieve or eliminate angina. EECP is appropriate for people who may have had multiple cardiac interventions such as: angioplasty, stent placement and/or bypass surgery, but continue to experience frequent cardiac symptoms such as chest pain. The treatment, which utilizes compression cuffs on the lower limbs (from buttocks to ankles), increases blood flow toward the heart. Pressure waves on the legs are timed to the heartbeat (pulse); the cuffs inflate when the heart is relaxing and release pressure when the heart is working.
Insurance typically covers EECP treatments (although each plan should be checked for available coverage); the standard treatment length is 35 visits-5 days each week for 7 weeks.
If you would like to participate in this program, print the EECP Physician Referral and discuss the possibility with your doctor. A physician's referral is required to start treatment.
If you have a question about EECP, please call 248-655-5750.
