What to Expect from a Family Physician
Treating your illnesses competently and promptly is only part of the care a family physician provides. They also:
- provide prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum care
- serve as your primary
health advisor - help you prevent illnesses before they occur
- understand many of the personal and social factors that keep
you well - understand the effect of your health or illness on other aspects of your life
- help your family cope with the effects of illnesses on other family members
- assist you and your family in obtaining other medical and community resources if needed
- provide family medical care, including geriatrics, sports medicine, dermatology, obstetrics, newborn medicine and pediatrics
