Pharmacy DepartmentOur pharmacy department utilizes an integrative practice model, where pharmacists have responsibilities for both distributive and clinical functions. We have restructured our model from working out of various satellites to a unit-based services model. Central pharmacy services include intravenous admixtures and state of the art automated dispensing units.
Clinical services include inpatient kinetic dosing for antibiotics and anticoagulation, renal dosage adjustments, IV-to-PO conversions, pain consults and participation in patient care rounds. Advancement of our practice model includes the incorporation of state-of-the-art technological systems and the implementation of a comprehensive electronic medical record including the use of clinician order entry.
Ambulatory Care pharmacy services are provided in the diabetes, medicine, anticoagulation, pulmonary and infectious diseases clinics. Services provided in the clinic setting include patient and physician education for a variety of medications/disease states, anticoagulation monitoring and management, as well as involvement in pharmacotherapeutic decisions.
Pharmacy Personnel We employ over 100 pharmacists, including 24 Clinical Specialists and more than 130 technical and clerical staff. In addition to the PGY-1 and PGY-2 Residency Programs, our personnel are actively involved in providing experiential training for the Doctor of Pharmacy students. Many of our pharmacy staff have joint faculty appointments with neighboring Colleges of Pharmacy and at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.
