Accreditation

The Oakland University - Beaumont Nurse Anesthesia Program has been fully accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs (COA) since its inception and currently holds a 10-year accreditation status through 2012. The program is scheduled for an on-site review by the Council on Accreditation March 12 -13, 2012.  The program is also accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Council of Graduate Schools in the US, Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools, and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Beaumont Health Systems is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

Mission

The mission of the Oakland University - Beaumont Nurse Anesthesia Program is to provide the highest quality graduate educational program that prepares nurses to function as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs). The program advances nurse anesthesia knowledge through research and scholarship and strives to exemplify excellence in educational leadership and professional involvement.

Educational Philosophy

The philosophy of the Nurse Anesthesia Program is derived from the mission and goals of Oakland University and the School of Nursing as well as the mission, values and guiding principles of Beaumont Health System. In addition, the program faculty believe that as advanced practice nurses, CRNAs provide high quality anesthesia care to a variety of client populations spanning the continuum of human health states and life spans, practicing in diverse locations and health care systems.

The Oakland University SON Mission and Philosophy and the American Nurses Association Standards of Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) are found in the SON Graduate Handbook. The AANA Standards are found in the AANA Professional Practice Manual.
