Preceptors

Jim Winegardner, Pharm.D., BCPS (Medical ICU)


Dr. Winegardner received his Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree in 2001 from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice and PGY-2 Critical Care specialty residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Winegardner is currently a critical care specialist in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Beaumont Hospital. Dr. Winegardner is involved with precepting students and residents in the area of medical critical care. Dr. Winegardner's other practice and research interests are in the area of analgesia, sedation and delirium, sepsis and infectious diseases.


Allycia M. Natavio, Pharm.D. (Surgical ICUs)

Dr. Marie received her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Detroit Receiving Hospital followed by a Critical Care Residency at University of Kentucky in Lexington. Dr. Marie currently practices in one of the Surgical Intensive Care Units at Beaumont Hospital and rounds with the SICU team. She precepts both students and residents in critical care and research. Her current research interests include glycemic control, stress ulcer prophylaxis and early continuous renal replacement therapy in the critically ill.

 


Lisa Forsyth, Pharm.D. (Surgical ICUs)


Dr. Forsyth received her Bachelor of Science degree and Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Following graduation she completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Kentucky, a Critical Care Residency at Detroit Receiving Hospital and a Neurocritical Care Pharmacy Fellowship at Wayne State University. Prior to coming to Beaumont, Dr. Forsyth was an Assistant Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy and precepted students in critical care. Her interests are critical care and nutrition.

 


John M. Koerber, Pharm.D. (Research)


Dr. Koerber received his Bachelor's of Science Degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan and his Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He completed a general practice residency at Beaumont, Royal Oak. Dr. Koerber currently serves as Coordinator, Investigational Drug Service at Beaumont Hospital. In addition, he coordinates the residency projects and offers a rotation for the Investigational Drug Service to both students and residents. Dr. Koerber's other practice and research interests are in the area of anticoagulation.

 


Prakash Shah, Pharm.D. (Infectious Diseases)


Dr. Shah received his Bachelor's of Science Degree and Doctor of Pharmacy from University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He is one of the two Antimicrobial Drug Therapy Specialists at Beaumont. His current practice of several years has been in the area of Infectious Diseases and plays an active role in the care of patients with HIV/AIDS in the out-patient infectious diseases clinic. He also has extensive experience in the area of critical care and pharmacokinetic dosing of antibiotics. He precepts residents in the area of Infectious Diseases and is a member of the Antimicrobial Management Program as well as Infection Control Committee.


Veena Rajanna, MS, Pharm.D., BCPS (Pediatric ICU / Neonatal ICU)


Dr. Rajanna received her Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy. Following graduation, she completed a PGY-1 and PGY-2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency with a Master of Science degree in Social and Administrative Pharmacy at the University of Minnesota Medical, Fairview in Minneapolis. Dr. Rajanna is currently the Pediatric ICU and Neonatal ICU clinical pharmacy specialist at Beaumont Hospital. She is involved in precepting both students and residents in the area of pediatric critical care.

 


Maxine Ng, Pharm.D., BCPS  (Transplant)


Dr. Ng received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Following graduation, she completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Beaumont Hospital. She began her career as an Internal Medicine specialist and now works in solid organ transplant, specializing in kidney and liver transplantation. Her other practice interests include nephrology and glycemic control. 

 


Sarah Nordbeck, Pharm.D., BCNSP (Nutrition)


Dr. Nordbeck received her Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She completed a pharmacy practice residency at Beaumont Hospital. Dr. Nordbeck currently works as the Nutritional Support pharmacist on a multi-disciplinary team with two nurses and three physicians. Her job duties include monitoring of total parenteral nutrition (TPN) to minimize complications. She precepts students and residents in initiating and monitoring TPN in all adult patients at Beaumont.

 


Maureen A. Smythe, Pharm.D. (Academics)


Dr. Smythe received her Bachelor's of Science Degree and Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. She completed a critical care fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Dr. Smythe is currently in a jointly funded faculty position between Wayne State University and Beaumont Hospital. Dr. Smythe coordinates the Doctor of Pharmacy experiential rotations at Beaumont. She precepts residents in the area of medical critical care and research. Dr. Smythe's other practice and research interests are in the area of anticoagulation. 

 


Mark F. Lutz, PharmD, CPPS (Drug Information / Medication Safety)


Dr. Lutz received his Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree from The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Beaumont, Royal Oak. Dr. Lutz is currently the Drug Information Specialist at Beaumont Hospital. His focus is in drug formulary management, and medication safety initiatives. He precepts pharmacy residents, and pharmacy students from Wayne State University, The University of Michigan, and Ferris State University.

 


Megan Cadiz, Pharm.D. (Surgical ICUs)

Dr. Cadiz received her Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Beaumont Hospital, Troy followed by a Critical Care Residency at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. Dr. Cadiz is currently a critical care specialist in one of the Surgical Intensive Care Units at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. She is involved in precepting both students and residents in the area of critical care. Dr Cadiz's practice and research interests include; sedation, delirium and sepsis.

 


Jenna Kast, Pharm.D., BCPS (Cardiac ICU)

Dr. Kast received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Following graduation, she completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency followed by a PGY2 Critical Care Residency at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Dr. Kast currently practices in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak where she works closely with the medical team to optimize patient outcomes. She is involved in the precepting of students and residents in the area of cardiovascular critical care. Her other practice and research interests include: sedation, infectious diseases and cardiology.
