Good health involves more than physical wellbeing. Appropriate behavioral, psychological or learning development skills are also vitally important, especially for infants, children and adolescents.
The Center for Human Development (CHD) at Beaumont Children's Hospital is committed to using a multidisciplinary, evidence-based approach to diagnose and treat children and adolescents who experience developmental, behavioral, and learning challenges. The broader mission of CHD encompasses community outreach, research, and professional training.
The Center for Human Development evaluates and treats children who are showing evidence of, or who are at risk for the following development disorders:
Parents, teachers, school administrators, doctors and others can refer children with behavioral or developement disorders. Each patient is evaluated and treated by a team of experts that may include specialists in developmental-behavioral pediatrics, psychology, psychiatry, social work and education. Detailed reports of evaluations are shared with families and provide a blueprint for intervention strategies.
Did you know that Beaumont Children's Hospital offers a number of clinical programs for children on the spectrum of autistic disorders? Our approach ensures that appropriate assessment, diagnosis and treatment is available for families and children experiencing the challenging effects of autism.
After her friend's child with autism benefitted from Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Toni Miller wondered, "Could it help my son Christian too?" The Beaumont Children's Hospital Center for Human Development assured her that ABA can help lots of children and their families, including her son who has Down syndrome.
