The Post-Treatment Communication Program is a personalized program developed for adults with communication difficulties as a result of a neurological disorder or brain injury, and who have been through the initial treatment phase and are looking for additional activities and compensations to maintain and improve speech, language and cognitive communication skills.
Communication Screening: Each individual is scheduled for a Communication Screening prior to admission to the Post-Treatment Program. The certified Speech-Language Pathologist utilizes informal tools to assess expressive and receptive speech, language, memory and cognitive skills. Individual and family goals, along with results of the Communication Screening, are utilized to determine the recommendations.
Communication for Life: These sessions focus on functional communication skills and home activities. Sessions strongly involve the primary caregivers in order to enhance carryover to the home and social environments. These sessions build on communication skills to improve quality of life. Keep Your Brain in Shape: These sessions provide suggestions for fun and easy activities to do at home. Recommendations keep in mind individual and caregiver interests, skills and lifestyles.
Personalized Communication Planner: The certified Speech-Language Pathologist will develop and personalize a communication planner in order to increase expressive language skills. We generate a planner and provide the training necessary to improve functional communication skills using the planner, as well as other nonverbal communication skills.
Medical insurance generally does not cover this program. This is a private-pay program. Financial assistance may be available through our Speech and Language Pathology Fund.

The program educates the patient and caregivers on techniques and practical solutions to help maximize the patient's communicative skills.
Treatment also includes written handouts, support and resources to help the patient and caregiver understand and continue to strengthen functional communication and cognitive skills.
