The Len and Roz Kolins Nursing Excellence Award

In December 2007, Dr. Mark D. Kolins, Maria Abrahamsen and the Kolins Family made a very generous gift to establish The Len and Roz Kolins Nursing Excellence Award at Beaumont Hospital – Royal Oak. Their gift is in honor of Dr. Kolins' parents. It grew out of their personal experience with caring for elderly parents and recognizes the critical importance of quality nursing care to achieving the very best patient outcomes.

The Kolins Nursing Excellence Award is presented annually to a Beaumont, Royal Oak nurse who demonstrates:

  • A focus on being at the patient's bedside
  • Day-to-day care of vulnerable patients
  • Placing the needs of the patient before his or her own needs
  • Unique interpersonal skills

The award recipient will receive funding to attend one national nursing conference. Conference selections will be subject to approval by the Award Review Committee. Funding will cover the cost of tuition, travel, and accommodations and meals for the conference. In addition, the award recipient will receive an etched glass plaque, a pin and public acknowledgment of the award. The award will be presented during Nurses Week celebrations at Beaumont – Royal Oak.
