What to Expect from a Family Physician

Treating your illnesses competently and promptly is only part of the care a family physician provides. They also:

  • provide prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum care
  • serve as your primary
    health advisor
  • help you prevent illnesses before they occur
  • understand many of the personal and social factors that keep
    you well
  • understand the effect of your health or illness on other aspects of your life
  • help your family cope with the effects of illnesses on other family members
  • assist you and your family in obtaining other medical and community resources if needed
  • provide family medical care, including geriatrics, sports medicine, dermatology, obstetrics, newborn medicine and pediatrics
