Our surgeons have trained throughout the world, and bring to Beaumont the skills to treat virtually any type of cancer. 

As a key component of Beaumont's multidisciplinary cancer team, surgeons work closely with medical and radiation oncology specialists, as well reconstructive surgeons and genetic counselors, to plan and provide the most effective treatment strategy for each patient.

Our dedication to minimally invasive options helps preserve healthy tissue. It also maximizes patient comfort and promotes quicker recovery times than traditional surgeries - all without compromising treatment effectiveness.

Beaumont oncologists offer a variety of minimally invasive techniques for diagnosing and surgically treating cancers, including:

  • advanced laparoscopic and thorascopic surgeries
  • robotic surgery
  • lymphatic mapping and sentinel lymph node techniques
  • tumor removal with reconstruction

Expertise in robotic therapy is offered for cancer of the prostate, esophagus and female reproductive system. Minimally invasive robotic surgery means reduced blood loss, lower risk of infection and less pain, with faster recovery for the patient. Beaumont also remains a leader in limb salvage surgery for patients with musculoskeletal cancers. We use metallic implants, bone grafts and integrative therapy combined with chemotherapy and radiation.

Laparoscopic colon resection, partial gastrectomy, adrenalectomy, distal pancreatectomy and liver resection are offered where appropriate. Our multidisciplinary teams also perform radiofrequency ablation of liver and kidney tumors, as well as brachytherapy for breast, prostate and musculoskeletal cancer.

We show our commitment to clinical and basic science research through participation in the American College of Surgeons Surgical Oncology Group. The Marcia & Eugene Applebaum Simulation Learning Institute at Beaumont allows surgeons to refine and teach surgical skills applicable to minimally invasive surgery. The center is accredited as a Level One training site for robotic surgery using the DaVinci system, further evidence of Beaumont's leadership in surgical technologies, education and research.
