Biostatistics

The department of biostatistics at the Research Institute supports the Beaumont Health System research community with their statistical needs. We provide services for design and analysis of human, animal, and laboratory/bench research studies. These services are available to Beaumont researchers including attending physicians, fellows, residents, research scientists, research nurses and other clinical and laboratory research professionals. Our services are available for help/collaboration on all aspects of research from initial study design through response to statistical comments of reviewers for submitted manuscripts.

More specifically, our biostatistical services include:

  • Help in formulating questions which can be addressed statistically
  • Choice of study design
  • Power and sample size calculations
  • Measurement issues
  • Assistance with statistical aspects of grant applications (internal and external), and HIC/ACC submissions
  • Data set consulting: setup of database, variables to include and coding issues
  • Carrying out data analyses
  • Interpretation of results and determining what conclusions can be made statistically
  • Presentation of results for manuscripts, abstracts, and posters (including review of manuscripts before actual submission)
  • Response to statistical comments of reviewers
  • Statistical and study design education related to the research process or on specific topics
