Adolescent Speech & Language Services

The Adolescent Communication Program through the Speech and Language Pathology Department is designed to treat the needs of pre-teen through young adult individuals who are experiencing communication difficulties as a result of various etiologies and feel they would achieve greater stimulation and progress in an adult-like treatment setting.  Each session is tailored to meet the unique needs of the adolescent and family.

Each adolescent will receive a comprehensive evaluation of their communication skills by a certified, licensed SLP. Tests are used to measure speech, receptive and expressive language skills and cognitive skills. Afterwards, an individualized treatment program of structured tasks and home program activities will be developed to meet the needs of the adolescent.

What causes communication difficulties?

  • a brain trauma such as a traumatic brain injury or concussion
  • language delays
  • articulation deficits
  • autism spectrum disorders
  • various syndromes

A physician referral is needed. Some insurance companies will cover the cost of the services. Private pay options are available.
