CCCWFU 91105: PHASE III DOUBLE BLIND, PLACEBO CONTROLLED STUDY OF DONEPEZIL IN IRRADIATED BRAIN TUMOR PATIENTS

The purpose of this study is to see if the study drug, donepezil (Aricept™), may reduce memory loss, confusion and slow thinking that have occurred after getting radiation treatments for brain tumor. Will also see if donepezil improves mood and quality of life. Donepezil has been approved by the FDA to treat memory loss, confusion and slow thinking that may occur in other brain problems. It has not been approved for patients that have received radiation for brain tumors.
Eligibility:
- Must have received prior whole or partial brain irradiation for treatment of a primary brain tumor or metastatic disease to the brain
- Must not be receiving chemotherapy at the time of enrollment
- Must have a telephone
- The effects of donepezil on the developing human fetus at the recommended therapeutic dose are unknown. For this reason, women of child-bearing potential and men must agree to use adequate contraception (hormonal or barrier method of birth control; abstinence) prior to study entry and for the duration of study
